The MLEI is a measure of the health, vibrancy and maturity of a leader’s inner core (i.e., self-concept, character, values system, thinking patterns and emotional make-up). Great leadership is less a function of a leader’s predominant trait (i.e., their highest scoring trait) and much more a function of the relative maturity of all their traits.
The MLEI is less a personality inventory in that it doesn’t measure who you are or even why you do what you do as much as it is a measure of your potential to respond either maturely or immaturely to people and situations, especially under stress. It is more of a leading indicator measure which can show the leader both the “good signs” and “red flags” in their inner core that can lead them to be successful in navigating stress or derail and be unsuccessful. The MLEI constructs (i.e., the nine types/constructs) correlate with some of the 16 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) constructs, however, they are not the same assessment. The MBTI measures preferences, which may or may not translate into action. The MLEI is in fact a deeper assessment of the health, vibrancy and maturity of a leaders’ inner core which directly translates to their outer-core actions. The MLEI has a closer connection with the California Psychological Inventory-260 (CPI-260) and the Hogan Suite of Assessments, especially in identifying the potential “red flags” and derailer aspects of a leaders’ traits.
